1. Is the one year subscription tied to the calendar year?
No, the one year subscription is valid for one year from the date of purchase and is not tied to the calendar year.
2. How can I download GreenFinder Golf GPS?
Open your BlackBerry web browser and type in the following address: www.GreenFinderSoftware.com. Note: this address must be accessed from your BlackBerry and will not work from a computer.
3. How much data does GreenFinder Golf GPS use?
Very little. An average golf course download uses approximately 12kb. This is equivalent to sending a few emails or visiting a web page.
4. Why isn't my golf course available?
Our database contains over 10,000 golf courses and we're adding about 150 new ones each week. If you can't find the golf course you're interested in, email us a course request. You can also use GreenFinder Golf GPS to mark a golf course yourself. It's easy to do - see below.
5. Does GreenFinder Golf GPS only work in North America?
GreenFinder Golf GPS works wherever a BlackBerry with a data plan works. Our current focus is North America. If you live elsewhere, feel free to request a golf course in your area, and we will do our best to get it marked. You can always use GreenFinder Golf GPS to mark the golf course yourself. It's easy to do - see below.
6. Can I mark my own golf course?
Yes, and it's easy to do. Choose "Mark New Golf Course" from the menu on your BlackBerry. Enter the name of the golf course and the instructions will be displayed. At a minimum, mark the front, centre and back of each green. Stand still for 5 seconds on the location you wish to mark and press the corresponding button (e.g. front, center, back). You can also mark hazards. GPS points are sent automatically to our system. After marking, we will review the data for accuracy and publish the course so all users can download it.
7. I've marked a course. Why can't I find it?
Firstly, thanks for taking the time to mark a golf course. After receiving golf course data from our customers, we usually need about a week to review, approve and promote the golf course before it becomes available to all our customers.
8. How do I mark a shot to show its distance?
Press the "SPACE" button at the bottom of the keyboard on your BlackBerry to mark the start point of your shot. As you approach your ball, the distance from that mark will be displayed at the bottom of the screen on your BlackBerry.
9. How do I get GreenFinder Golf GPS to speak the distance?
Press the mute button on the top of the BlackBerry and GreenFinder Golf GPS speaks the distance to the center of the green.
10. Can I check my email or make a call while using GreenFinder Golf GPS?
Yes of course. Simply press the red "end" key (to the right of the trackball) to return to the Home screen on your BlackBerry. At this point, you can perform any BlackBerry function. When you're ready to continue using your range finder, press the GreenFinder Golf GPS icon to continue where you left off.
11. I can't find a golf course I know you've marked?
When searching for a golf course, try using just part of the name. If you misspell the name of the city or state, the search will return no matches.
12. How accurate is GreenFinder Golf GPS ?
The accuracy of GreenFinder Golf GPS depends on the device it is running on. Under usual golfing conditions the accuracy is generally 1-3 yards for the BlackBerry® 8800 smartphone, BlackBerry® 8820 smartphone, BlackBerry® Curve 8310 smartphone, BlackBerry® Pearl 8110 smartphone, and 1-10 yards for the BlackBerry® 8830 World Edition smartphone, BlackBerry® Curve 8330 smartphone, and BlackBerry® Pearl 8130 smartphone.
13. Why does the distance sometimes change when I'm standing still?
All GPS devices have a certain level of inaccuracy, due to the nature of GPS. Accuracy can be affected by atmospheric conditions, the number of visible GPS satellites, nearby buildings, etc. This inaccuracy is plus or minus from the true distance. What you are noticing is called drift - where the GPS receiver thinks it detects change due to these conditions.
